Jesse appeared on musical legend U-Roy’s posthumous album Solid Gold U-Roy earlier in the year, duetting with him on the track ‘Small Axe’; fitting given Jesse’s nickname is Small Axe. As an originator of the chatty rhythmic style known as toasting, a key foundation of the development of rap & hip hop in the 70’s, U-Roy left behind an almost unsurpassed legacy. Trojan Jamaica label bosses Zak Starkey and Sharna “Sshh” Liguz recently released the Trojan Soundsystem Remix of ‘Small Axe’, a dub-powered take, rich with instrumentation and reverb.
